"Mixes old-fashioned swashbuckling with laser cannons and politics, resulting in an exciting read with a dash of intrigue -- think Star Wars meets Treasure Island."

Booklist

"Good, old-fashioned, outer-space pirate fun ... a whirl of space battles, sleuthing, spycraft, domestic spats, and ventures into dangerous locales."

Kirkus Reviews

"This swashbuckling series debut is bursting with funny, fast-paced action and steampunk flair, making it a great pick for readers who like Philip Reeve's Larklight."

Book Expo of America Signing!

May 29, 2014

I recently returned from a session signing advance copies of Curse of the Iris at Book Expo of America, at the Javits Center here in New York.

Some photos:

signing books

Top photo courtesy of Frank Rich; next two snapped by superstar Jupiter Pirates editor Andrew Harwell. In case you’re curious, I’m getting a business card in that bottom picture — nobody mugged me or anything.

Here’s two more:

That’s me and the aforementioned Mr. Harwell — he’s the slim one who knows how to smile.

That’s the carpet in BEA’s green room, which is nice but perhaps inaccurately named. It is very trippy, however.

I’ve been working on the third Jupiter Pirates adventure, tentatively entitled Rescue Ships. (It’s somewhere between possible and probable that the book won’t have that name when it hits bookstores.) There’s good news and bad news about that. The good news is I figured out what was bothering me about the story treatment I’d created for Rescue Ships. The bad news is I was correct that something wasn’t right.

In other words, back to work!
